TRADITIONAL CARTS - CHURRIÃO

Carro de TrabalhoThe Churrião Cart used to be a means of transportation for people as a public service or was sometimes owned by large, rich families for private transportation. It was a very sturdy vehicle drawn by a pair of draught animals and suitable for long trips, where the travellers could enjoy such comforts as curtains and quilted and reclining seats which could be changed into beds at night.

Although the churriões were considerably more common in the Alentejo than in the Algarve, they were also to be seen here. This one comes from the Albufeira area.
