Arnold Clayman

Born in London in the nineteen thirties, Arnold Clayman, while still at school, won an all-London competition for the best poster to advertise war bonds. He also was runner-up in a Daily Express national newspaper competition.

But, on leaving school he gave up art completely for a successful career as an accountant and later as the chairman of a group of hotels.

Having settled in the Algarve in 1984, he re-discovered his talent as a painter, driven to do so by the landscapes by which he was surrounded in the Silves area. Since then has participated in several exhibitions. His work features animals and horse racing in pen and ink, and watercolours of his surrounding environment. His paintings are in private collections in many parts of the world.

At the gallery of the Museu do São Brás he will be exhibiting a variety of subjects including equestrian, landscapes, floral and still life studies in water colour and, his favourite medium, pastels.
