  Else van der Laan was born in The Hague in The Netherlands . She started painting in 1980 and has been painting ever since next to her career as a psychotherapist. She studied at the Vrije Kunst Academy in Amsterdam and for many years she took lessons by several masters. In 2006 she moved to Portugal ,developed her skills and started giving workshops and exhibitions. Living in Portugal she was touched by the beautiful colours of the country which gave her a wide range of inspiration.
Else's work is strong and powerful coloured., mostly abstract with figurative elements. Her paintings contain meaningful layers and are filled with forms, rhythms and motifs that have come from several cultures. Mostly she works with acrylic and adds different materials to make her work vivid . Her work represents soulful inner landscapes and reflects the mystery of life in an alternative way.
