Oo-Boop-I-Do Christmas Party (Sunday 2nd December)
Having got a liking for ´world premières´, the 10 piece hot dance band, Oo-Boop-I-Do, will be back at the Museum in São Brás on 2 December to delight both those who come just to listen and the increasing numbers of people who want to be up there dancing. Once you have seen this band you have to come back and see hear it again, “see hear” because this is pure entertainment; Oo-Boop-I-Do is a performance band that plays infectious music. Ian Carfrae’s world famous Silent Tap Dance is just one of the performance highlights that will be seen but not heard! The line up is a mixture of talented musicians of various nationalities and various ages: one thing that doesn´t vary is the quality of the music.

The Dream Dragon (Sunday 2nd December and Saturday 8th December)
The photograph ( right) shows Aperitivo's set-builder, Roger Legg, as he begins work on Aperitivo's Christmas fantasy presentation – about a little boy
whose bedroom furniture turns into a dragon and flies off with him to save the phoenix (helped by a fairy godmother and her talking cat, and hindered by Mefistofeles, the devil)! Now that is definitely an event not to be missed!!!!
Performances on Sunday 2nd December, 6.00 pm and also Saturday 8th December, 6.45 pm
Film Club: Diary of a Chambermaid (Monday 3rd December)
Director Luis Buñuel’s DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID ("Le Journal d'une femme de chambre") tracks the great French actress Jeanne Moreau as Célestine, a domestic servant who leaves Paris to work at a country manor. Célestine soon discovers that her bourgeois employers are riddled with obsessions. Madame Monteil (Françoise Lugagne) is a sour, chilly woman who is fixated on cleanliness. Madame does not satisfy the sexual appetite of Monsieur (Michel Piccoli). He has made a habit of fulfilling his desires with the chambermaids, and he quickly takes a shine to Célestine.
Madame’s father, Monsieur Rabour (Jean Ozenne), may have the strongest obsessions. His fetishes have devoured him so completely that he makes a request to call Célestine by the same name he used for those preceding her.
Célestine does what is necessary to keep her position secure. She accommodates the old man’s obsessions, observes Madame’s commands, and rejects Monsieur’s advances while leading him to believe she possesses the indulgent sexual history he imagines she has.

New Gallery Art Opening: Fantasy & Mysticism (Saturday 8th December)
Midwinter has always been a time of mysticism, of the need to turn the world round from the darkness of winter into the warmth of spring. The new exhibition at the Museum in São Brás concentrates on those expressions of light from dark, of colour from monotone. It brings together the work from several artists, including some specially commissioned to work to this theme.
There are ‘iconic’ paintings on wood of Kasia Wrona - misty visions of saints and angels, and quiet, reflective images from Jane Page, in which colour is laid over a monotone base. These are balanced with the strong colours of fantasy paintings from Brigitte von Humboldt – evocative, rich landscapes full of suggestion and half-remembered forms, the sharper, but very playful images of Luís Athouguia, and the swirling colours and figures of Nela Vicente (see picture).
For more information about the individual artists, please click here
The exhibition opens on 8th December at 6 pm and there is a whole evening’s entertainment offered at the Museum, with a second performance of the fantasy pantomime "The Dream Dragon" by the theatre group Aperitivo at 6.45 pm and a classical music concert with Rebecca Hewes (cello) and Russell Hepplewhite (piano) at 8.30 pm
(see below).
Saturday 8th December, 6.00 pm. Bar and food available.
Classical Music Concert: Duo Perspective (Saturday 8th December)
Rebecca Hewes and Russell Hepplewhite formed their cello and piano duo whilst studying at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music. Whilst at music college, they performed together in many concerts, masterclasses and events, and quickly developed a vast cello and piano repertoire. As a duo they have been selected to perform in a number of prestigious concert series' and festivals, including the Brahms and Friends Concert Series at the Royal Academy of Music. They were finalists together for their performance of the Delius Cello Sonata in the Delius Prize.
In 2004, they were selected to appear as featured artists in the Concordia Foundation Concert Series, which resulted in a number of prestigious recitals and collaborations with other artists. More recently they were shortlisted for the Park Lane Group 2008 series at the Southbank Centre, London.
With a repertoire ranging from Bach to Hepplewhite (Russell took Composition as his first study at the Royal College of Music), the duo is now in demand throughout the UK for recitals. Their future engagements include recitals in Chichester, Potters Bar, Haywards Heath, Leeds and Portugal, where they have been invited to give a series of concerts later this year.
