Aperitivo's First Main Course! (Friday 15th February)
Aperitivo Performance Group are thrilled, Luvvies, to present their first full evening of theatre. On Saturday 9th they performed their usual ‘opener’ to the new art exhibition – Animals and Animalism – in the New Gallery at the Museum in São Brás, and on Friday 15th February, at 7.30pm, they will be continuing the 'animals' theme with a collection of five pieces of theatre - ranging from the intense to the hilarious (and including the definitely bizarre!).
Four of the five pieces are multilingual, so most people will be able to enjoy jokes in their own language, and to encourage a truly relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere we are planning to have small café tables and chairs rather than rows, so that people can bring their champagne and smoked salmon Aperitivos into the theatre. Entrance to this first Aperitivo Main Course will be free, with the usual Hat Collection afterwards.
Jazz @ The Museum: LDJ Trio (Sunday 17th February)
Following on from the huge success of January's Jazz Club concert, this month we bring you an exciting new project by the name of the LDJ Trio - born out of a desire to create a more avant-guarde jazz ensemble, incorporating influences from styles like electro, groove, fusion etc.
The trio comprises João Frade (pictured) on accordion; Brazilian Adriano "Dinga" Santo Silves on bass; and Leo Tomich, also from Brazil, on drums.
In this concert, the Trio will present the work which they have developed, and also perform their own arrangements of some jazz standards. As usual, there will be a Jam session after the concert.

Film Club: Fire (Monday 4th February) - CANCELLED
Aged Biji is a widow, who is unable to walk, talk and look after herself, communicates with a bell, lives with two sons, Ashok and his barren wife, Radha, and Jatin, who is in love with a Chinese-Indian, Julie, and a male servant, Mundu. When Julie refuses to marry him as she dislikes joint family life, he is more or less brow-beaten to marry Sita so that she bear a male child to carry on the family name. Ashok has given up on marriage and is now leading a celibate life, has become a follower of a religious leader, Swamiji, and spends all his free time with him. Jatin has not given up on Julie and continues to meet her in his free time. Thus Radha and Sita are left alone most of the time. While Ashok, Radha and Sita run a take-out Punjabi food business, Jatin runs a video store where he rents out porno movies also on the sly. Mundu passes his free time watching some of these porno movies and masturbating, much to Biji's dislike. Then one day Radha surprises Mundu and tells Ashok to fire him. But Mundu knows Radha's secret - a secret that if revealed, will tear the lives of the entire family apart.

Art Exhibition Opening: Animals & Animalism (Saturday 9th)
Animals have become an increasingly important feature of 20th and 21st century art, and the new exhibition at the Museu de Trajo in São Brás concentrates not only on artworks featuring animals, but also on those showing the influence of animals – where animals are the inspiration, instead of the subject. The group of artists taking part includes Jean-Louis Merré, whose works truly deserve the title of Fine Art; Nela Vicente, whose work Alma Animal exemplifies the ‘Animalism’ of the exhibition’s title; emotive and colourful cats and horses from painter Liz Allen, and animalistic sculptures by Arlindo Arez.
