Jazz Club: Lagos Jazz Orchestra

We are very proud to present the Lagos-Jazz-Orchestra, a big-band consisting of 18 musicians (including singers) conducted by the famous jazz-trumpet-player Hugo Alves.

The L.J.O.,plays music from the early twenties, via the swing period of Sammy Nestico to the most recent styles of Thad Jones and contemporaries.

Don’t miss this “once-in-a-life-time” opportunity and come early to get a seat for this fabulous concert.

Concert: The Conservatório Series 2

The second of three concerts to be given by the most promising students from the Marina Campina school in Faro. This concert by these talented young people will feature wind instruments (clarinet, flute and saxophone) with piano support, with pieces from a wide variety of composers, including Bach, Chopin, Ravel and Bartok. This is the future of music-making in the Algarve and in Portugal - please come along and give your support.

New Year's Dinner

The German speakers' group of the Amigos do Museu will be holding a multilingual New Year's Dinner on Wednesday, 28th January at 19:00.

As well as starters, the main course will be "Caldeirada de Atum" - or Tuna -fish Stew. The host, Georg Fransky Cabral, will take this opportunity to tell us something about the secrets of Portuguese cuisine. Everyone is welcome to join the party.

Dinner reservations are essential and the costs are € 8.50 p.person excluding drinks.

On Saturday 31st January the local association Al-Portel will be presenting its first publication entitled "Da Árabia ao Al-Andalus" (from Arabia to Andalusia) at the Museu doTrajo de São Brás de Alportel. The book was written by Dr. Renato Santos with the help of members José Dantes, Nelson da Silva and Teresa Sofia Sancho, among others, and based on the lectures Dr. Santos gave at the museum.
