David Creevy

Sail through Twilight - David Creevy (Thursday 15th)

David Creevy, the talented Irish classical guitarist is making a very welcome return visit to the Algarve to play 2 concerts, the first of which is on 15 November at in the Museum in São Brás. The St Patrick´s Society of the Algarve organised the highly successful short tour of the Algarve last year where David played to full houses and received standing ovations for his masterly performances.

David, who studied with Christopher Parkening, one of the great Segovia´s pupils, has won many awards and competitions both in Ireland and the USA with his fittingly entitled programme, "Tribute to Segovia". On this visit to the Algarve David will be playing his new and varied programme entitled "Sail through Twilight" which will include works composed by Yocoh (Japan), Villa Lobos and Segovia (Spain), Barrios Mangore (Paraguay), Domeniconi (Italy), Merlin (Argentina) and J. S. Bach.

Creevy is recognised as Ireland’s most talented young guitarist. The Irish Times wrote: “…Creevy is a sensitive musician with a knowing sophisticated side…a strong technique with an ability to define layers in a multi-line texture…”

Early booking recommended.

Hoover The DogAcoustic Music Club: Hoover The Dog (Friday 2nd)

Not so much an instruction but an invitation to listen to talented musicians brought all the way from Wales. Welsh Borders trio Hoover the Dog define themselves as "purveyors of intelligent music".

Fiddler John Hymas' classical, European and jazz influences dominate the Celtic-ish repertoire with a few English traditional tunes thrown in for good measure. The result is wonderfully original. A mainly instrumental set features the virtuoso combination of Hymas' strings, the athletic accordion of Paul Hutchinson and guitar/bouzouki man Tony Harris' light, fluid fingerings. Exhibiting bags of technical brilliance and the gift of making music clever and funny at the same time - much cheeky time change and manic modulation - the music ranges from stylish and understated to gutsy and gleeful.

Click on their names below to see more information about each of the members of the trio:-

The story concerns Noriko, who lives happily with her widowed father and seems in no hurry to get married. Her father, a professor, however, wants to see her settled and conspires with his sister to trick Noriko into pursuing an arranged marriage.

The film stars Setsuko Hara, in her first of many collaboration with Ozu.
