Jazz Club @ The Museum: Red Earth Trio

The Jazz Club opens the doors of the old stable again to present the Red Earth Trio, featuring James Mellor (piano), Luís Henrique (bass) and Ricardo Lima (percussion), with special guest, the well-known jazz singer Manuela Lopes.

This trio's programme will include some very beautiful arrangements by the pianist, James Mellor.

As usual there will be a jam session after the concert.

Classical Music Concert: Alena Khmelinskaia (Piano)

Alena Khmelinskaia is a young Luso-Russian pianist, born in Novosibirsk about 19 years ago. She completed her music studies at the regional music academy, Conservatório Regional do Algarve, Maria Campina, in Faro, where she obtained the highest grade.

She has been awarded several prizes up till now, including the first prize at the 15th International Maria Campina Piano Competition, Faro, 2010, as well as at the 9th International Alexander Scriabine Competition held in Paris, 2009. She won second prize at the 9th International Piano Competition Nikolai Rubenstein at the Slavic Music Academy in Bagnolet, Paris in 2008, as well as at the 9th Galician-Portuguese Piano Competition for young musicians held at the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo, Spain in 2006.

She has always been active as a concert pianist, giving many recitals in Portugal and abroad including at the Portuguese Embassy in Brazil and Brussels to commemorate Portugal Day and Camões Day as well as to commemorate the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic in 2010, in Bastad in Sweden. Special mention is made of the fact that as far back as 2003, she played at the Concert op. 44 for piano and orchestra by Berkovich, under the direction of the conductor Ferreira Lobo with the Northern Orchestra in Braga.

She has also attended Master Classes with A.T.Lobo, Univ. of Aveiro, Diane Andersen of EPTA Belgium, Adriano Jordão in Brazil, Antonio Rosado of Evora and Paul Crossley.

The concert programme includes works by: Haydn, Tchaikovsky & Liszt.
