PARTICIPATION IN CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL EVENTS
1. recruited 580 members, 1 corporate member, 3 "special" friends. The largest proportion is English, followed by German, Portuguese and Dutch. Other nationalities represented are: Norwegian, Swiss, Finnish, American, Puerto Rican. The most rapidly growing section is German membership. 9 people have not rejoined.

2. gained sponsorship in either services/funding from: Vila Sol, Lloyd and Whyte, Corte Real, Algardata, Lua Azul, ALFA

3. run 14 weekly activities: art classes, ballroom dancing, bridge practice, choir practice, Feldenkraus, Keep fit, Portuguese lessons, Qi Gong, Salsa, T´ai Chi/Qi Gong, Tennis, Walking, Yoga (English language), Yoga (Portuguese language)

4. hold 10 other activities that run twice monthly or monthly : A Night at the Opera presentation, Athenaeum Discussion Group, Fado, Film Club (English language), Film Club (German Language), Friends of Friends social evenings, Garden Club, History Group, Jazz Club, Literature Group and regular talks on subjects such as art/aspects of the Algarve/Science.

5. run a Friends´ library for books, CDs and videos.

6. run 2 art galleries and host the 2 day Arte Viva event

7. hold 1 classical concert as least per month

8. have regular talks/visits (German and Portuguese languages)

9. hosted a number of special events: -Dixieland Jazz/dance, Master classes in Flower Arranging, Antiques Auction, Bird Watching Walks, Wine Tasting sessions, held Literary and History talks/dinners, Silent Movie with live music, Spring Fair, Christmas Fair, Appliqué workshop, Theatre Productions, ´Themed´days (e.g. Moroccan Day), Environment Exhibition, International Museum Day, fashion show

DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION

HIGHLIGHTS
1. attracted the following published authors to speak: Jerry Stivers, Lesley Brain, Dr Afonso Cunha, Pde J Cunha Duarte, Jenny Grainer, Clive Viney, Mick Jones, Trevor Haywood, Maureen Erde

2. had introductions/presentations to 3 operas by the world class opera director, Sonja Frisell

3.through the activities of Friends, Emanuel was able to host an International Museums Conference.

4. held well attended and popular social events, e.g. Valentine´s Dinner Dance and Dinner/talk on the battle of Agincourt.

5. hosted a world class jazz band - New York City Jazz All Stars (through liaison with Grémio das Músicas)

6. hosted the internationally renowned Chamber Group, the Lacerda Quartet

7. established a very successful Jazz Club bringing talented musicians such as Matt Lester, - Cristina Afonso, Manuela Lopes to the Museum. Managed by Eveline Sakkers.

8. established 2 choirs and 2 instrumental groups. Coro dos Amigos do Museu has 40 members (18 German, 9 English, 6 Portuguese, 3 Dutch and 2 Norwegians). There is also a smaller choral group, Canticorum, which has 12 members and 2 instrumental groups (1 trio/quartet with flute, oboe, piano and cello, and a recorder quartet). They have now performed on 11 occasions and are scheduled to perform in ´Nocturnas de Verão´ in Faro Museum in August. These groups are directed by Walter Sulzer.

9. run the most successful Arte Viva festival so far and franchising the name to other Câmaras who wish to run similar small scale events feeding into our major fair in July

10. held our first antiques auction which raised over €700 for Friends´funds (Carmen)

11. established a new style of ´themed art exhibitions´. so far - ´A Splash of Colour´and ´After Magritte´, establishing ourselves as a major contributor force in showing art. (Anneke, Jane, Diane, Lynne).

12. established a strong performance group Aperitivo, initially linked to art openings but now branching out (led by Diane).

13. established a film club showing films with an international flavour and serving themed food. Managed by Naz.

14. established a wide range of popular activities in the German language e.g. film club, talks by Georg Franzky, visits. Coordinated by Inge.

15. Established a monthly fado session. Our first brought 60 people, including many Portuguese
NEW ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE
Executive management group: Lynne, Inge, Cliff, Peter, Penny led by Lynne (i.e. those who contribute most volunteer time to the general running of Friends) (on occasions Emanuel, Isabel, Linda, Maria São José, Claire will be invited to attend to comment on Portuguese, Dutch, Museum, other interests)

(Reporting group: Inge (German Coordination and Museum/Friends Liaison), Eveline, Helga, Peter, Cliff, Naz, Ann, Claire, Mark, Walter, Marie, Roger, Frances, Alex, Susan, David, Joseph, Diane. (i.e. those who run unpaid activities, plus Roger and Joseph who provide technical/website support).

MAJOR PLANS FOR 2007
1. continue to look at ways of renting out of the Museum´s spaces and equipment to bring in more revenue to develop the infrastructure of the Cultural Centre. (Old Time Musical Hall is our first)

2. continuing to develop liaison work to build up a cultural network. (Vila Sol and the Friends share concerts and they have hired Trevor and Peter for historical talks). I am working with the Câmara of Estoi to help them set up mini Arte Viva fairs. Further developing links with the Orchestra of the Algarve.

3. exploring setting up a chamber opera group with Sonja Frisell.

4. developing work on art exhibitions and on performing arts

5. looking for major financial sponsors

6. continuing looking at ways of bringing more Portuguese into the organisation. A major event would focus upon International Museum Day when a photographic/oral history project would be launched/continued development through school liaison projects

7. holding 3 major fundraising events - a Christmas Fair, a Spring Fair and an antiques auction

8. developing links with the Câmara in São Brás and other Câmaras/cultural centres

9. run a major event to celebrate Shakespeare Day/St George´s Day. (theatre, puppet show, films, music, poetry, food)

10. to continue developing the group as a multinational/multilingual organisation that reflects a broad range of cultural interests
