Bouncers & Shakers (vrijdag 3/zaterdag 4 april)
Fast moving, high comedy – this is the basic scenario of both Bouncers and Shakers, the two complementary plays that will be performed by the multi-lingual Aperitivo Performance Group at 8.00pm on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April at the Museum, São Brás.
Although Aperitivo have stayed true to their decision to reflect the various nationalities that make up both the cast and the audience, it is fair to say that these two plays are fundamentally English. The plays are based around a disco and a cocktail bar, and the actors – just four men in the Bouncers scenario – play the bouncers (the strongarm men on the door), the four lads going to the disco, four girls going to the disco and a host of other characters - including the stars in a Swedish pornographic movie.
The cast of Shakers is bigger and takes advantage of the skills of the Portuguese and German members of Aperitivo, but – like Bouncers – relies on the acting skills of the players for impact; there is no scenery, no fancy costumes, no props (which is why one character has to play the hairdryer in a ladies’ hairdressing salon). Both plays are very special, very funny, and make up an excellent evening’s entertainment – don’t miss it!
There will be an interval between the two plays and appropriate food will be available. As one of the characters says “Got me dole money saved up; might have a chicken in a basket, might have a hot dog – might risk it.”
As usual, seating in the theatre will be at small tables so that you can enjoy your drinks and snacks in comfort. Call the museum to reserve your table!
WARNING! Strobe lights will be used during this performance.

Jazz Concert: Greg Burk and Hugo Alves (zondag 5 april, 20.30 uur)
This is the first of two special "bonus" jazz concerts that will be taking place during April and May - the second of which will take place on the first Sunday of next month. We’ll be starting on the 5th April with the famous American piano-player, Greg Burk, and featuring the "Pride of Portugal", Hugo Alves, on trumpet.
Before moving to Rome in June 2004, Greg Burk was a long time member of the Boston music scene, teaching at Boston’s Berklee college of music. As well as being an educator, Greg studied with Yusef Lateef, Paul Bley and Danilo Perez and performed with Steve Swallow and Jerry Bergonzi. His trademark is synergy of freedom and structure. His latest CD is an all original programme that features reinterpretations of previously composed works, organically developed free improvisations and explorations of the non-traditional sound-potential of the piano. His seemingly paradoxical ability to sound both considered and unfiltered "is a marvel", wrote "All about jazz.com". Burk is a complete pianist and is capable of a total sound-making on the piano.
Hugo Alves is one of the most active of young Portuguese jazz musicians, teaching on the course for the official Jazz Degree at the Superior School of Music in Porto. He also now produces the Lagos Jazz Festival and runs a permanent jazz workshop, Atelier de Jazz e Música Moderna do Algarve, as well as other programmes for children with official support from the Ministry of Education. Alves is creating a scene around his horn and playing. He has a knack for incorporating tradition into music which is thoroughly modern.
