Opening tentoonstelling: Animals & Animalism (zaterdag 9)

Animals have become an increasingly important feature of 20th and 21st century art, and the new exhibition at the Museu de Trajo in São Brás concentrates not only on artworks featuring animals, but also on those showing the influence of animals – where animals are the inspiration, instead of the subject. The group of artists taking part includes Jean-Louis Merré, whose works truly deserve the title of Fine Art; Nela Vicente, whose work Alma Animal exemplifies the ‘Animalism’ of the exhibition’s title; emotive and colourful cats and horses from painter Liz Allen, and animalistic sculptures by Arlindo Arez.

Aperitivo's First Main Course! (vrijdag 15)

Aperitivo – the innovative performance group which always opens the festivities at the bi-monthly art exhibitions in the New Gallery at the Museum in São Brás – is to present its first evening devoted purely to theatre.  This will take place on Friday 15th February at 7.30pm and will feature a special guest appearance by singer Francisco Brazão.

The topic of the evening is Animals and Animalism – which is also the theme of the latest Art Exhibition – and Aperitivo will be staging a somewhat weird and definitely wonderful mix of pieces featuring a whole range of talking, singing and even dancing animals.

Aperitivo is a multinational group and prides itself on presenting specially written or adapted multilingual pieces – so that Portuguese, English, Dutch and German get to enjoy ‘private’ jokes in their own languages, while easily following the action of the piece as a whole.  The pieces chosen for this evening range from the intense to the hilarious and should appeal to most ages as well.

In order to promote a relaxed and lighthearted mood in the audience, there will be little café tables instead of the usual rows of chairs, so that the audience can sip their wine (or champagne) in comfort, and nibble at their – Aperitivos! Of course!

Entrance is free, but, as usual, the hat will be passed round afterwards!

Jazz @ The Museum: LDJ Trio (zondag 17)

Na een zéér succesvol concert in de maand januari, zullen we u wederom verrassen in februari, nu met een wel heel byzonder trio: LDJ projekt.

Dit trio bestaat uit de drievoudige wereldkampioen akkordeon João Frade (u heeft nog nooit zo´n talent zien spelen) met "Dinga", braziliaanse bassist en Leo Tomich, een braziliaanse drummer.

Zij spelen en fusion van diverse stijlen en zowel eigen werk als jazz-standards. Zoals gewoonlijk is er na het concert een jam-session.
