Amigos do Museu de São Brás - July Review ----------------------------------------- The major event for Amigos Do Museu in July is the popular and well-established "Arte Viva". The 8th Annual Festival, which will once again be organised by the Friends of the Museum team, in collaboration with the Museum, takes place in the Museum Grounds on Saturday and Sunday 12th and 13th between 6.00pm and Midnight. There will be many stands with art and handicrafts for sale, food and drink from around the world, and a children’s art competition. In addition there will be jugglers, clowns, buskers, face painting, with exhibitions of Line Dancing and African Drumming, as well as a Fashion Show. And if that was not enough, there will be live music throughout the evening, with Brazilian, Portuguese, Jazz, and Popular music and singing. The bands appearing on stage on Saturday will be Nanook and Jazztaparta, with Tinto Beat and Mare Nostrum on Sunday, Entrance price on both evenings is €4. But Arte Viva should not overshadow other the other Amigos' events in July. On July 5th the Amigos Choir under the guidance of Walter Sulzer is giving a concert in the Church of São Brás with the Loulé flute ensemble, and on Friday and Saturday 18th and 19th, APERITIVO will perform ‘Fantasia de Maça’ at the São Brás cinema, repeating the performance at the Museum on Friday 25th. Trevor Haywood continues with the fourth in his current series of history talks, on the subject of "Why it took nearly 200 years for the Romans to defeat the Iberians and the Lusitanians", on Wednesday 11th. Finally, there will be a concert on 26th July by Katharina Kruger and her Master Class students. In a new venture for the Amigos, a complete season of classical concerts has been arranged from October 2008 through to June 2009. Artists include the Trio L’Abaco from Germany, the Amsterdam Chamber Group, and the Trio Allegra from Lubeck. In addition there will be concerts by students from the Faro Conservatory, and piano duos by local, but international artistes, a Classical Guitar concert, and a Performance by our own choir augmented by another Algarve choir. Single tickets for each concert will be €12 for members, but there will be a season ticket for €85 for members only booking before July 15th. Bookings can be made through the Amigos office at the museum.
